Theater Wing
GALECA's Theater Wing is the stage-focused branch of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics—a group of LGBTQ+ critics and journalists who review entertainment and honor the best of Broadway and Off-Broadway through a LGBTQ+ lens.
The Dorian Theater Awards are voted on by the GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics theater wing, which has grown since its inception. The wing launched in 2023 with 31 stage critics and journalists as its charter voting members. In 2025, the Theater Wing expanded to more than 40 professional journalists who regularly cover New York City theater.
Their awards cover both explicitly LGBTQ+-themed shows and broader mainstream productions, judged through a queer lens. The wing aims to elevate diversity and queerness in theater, honoring outstanding work that inspires empathy and truth.
This specialized group comprises stage critics, writers, and journalists from major outlets such as The New Yorker, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The Village Voice, and more.
