Voting Rules

  • Broadway productions must have their opening night by April 26, 2026. Off-Broadway productions must have their opening night by March 31, 2026.

In the case of productions which transfer from Off-Broadway to Broadway:

    • If said transfer occurs within the same competitive season, then we will consider the Broadway iteration of the show for our awards.

    • If the transfer occurs in subsequent seasons, we would not consider the production at that time, having already considered the Off-Broadway iteration.

      • In these cases we may consider new elements of the production which were not present in the previous Off-Broadway run.

    • If the transfer occurs in a subsequent season but the initial Off-Broadway production did NOT earn any Dorian Award nominations, then all elements of the Broadway production will be eligible

GALECA will follow the Tony Awards Administration Committee’s eligibility placements for Broadway productions and performers, unless otherwise noted. A “Reminder List” will be created for members with every eligible production and performer sorted into their respective Dorian Awards categories.

  • All GALECA Theater Wing members will receive a ballot containing the Broadway categories and special categories. Designated Off-Broadway voters will receive a second ballot containing  the Off-Broadway categories.

*Only members who have committed to being an Off-Broadway voter will vote in the categories specifically honoring Off-Broadway productions and performers.

In the nomination phase: Each voter will rank their top three choices in each category. Each candidate is assigned a point value based on its ranked position on the ballot, with the top ranked candidate receiving the most points, and so on.

In the winner phase: Each voter will select ONE nominee per category as their choice for the winner.

If a voter has not attended enough eligible candidates within a category to make an edified assessment, they are asked not to vote in that category.
