More About Membership!

GALECA is a community for LGBTQ+ critics and journalists who are actively covering entertainment. If you’re writing, reporting, or creating thoughtful content about film, TV, or theater on a regular basis, you’ll be a fit.

The work
We love smart, engaging takes on entertainment. Whether you’re reviewing, interviewing, or storytelling in your own voice, what matters most is that you care about the work and bring insight and perspective to it. You can write for major publications or for your own newsletter, as long as the work is consistent (as it can be) and all yours, we’d love to see it.

Inclusivity matters
GALECA is big on inclusivity and working harder every day to include more folks from different backgrounds. Our POC members should know that their work will be seen and shared. We’re intentional about creating a space that reflects the full range of LGBTQ+ identities and experiences, and we welcome members from all different vibes within entertainment journalism.

Staying part of the group
Being a member means staying active, treating fellow members with respect, and following our community guidelines. Engage with us on social media, join our private Slack, and tag us when sharing your work. It’s about showing up, being thoughtful, and supporting one another. We can’t grow if people don’t know!

Dues
Dues are currently $50 a year for standard members. Through our Help Our Own Fund—to which members contribute to help fellow members experiencing financial hardship—Galeca offers reduced or waived fees when needed, because access should never be a barrier especially in today’s media world. The same fund allows us to donate to relief organizations when our members and allies are impacted by natural disasters (like the 2025 wild fires in California)
