The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics

GALECA

Where LGBTQ+ critics shape the culture.

Queer critics don’t just cover culture, we help shape it. This space centers voices grounded in lived experience, engaging with stories that reflect queer lives as well as those that have nothing to do with queerness at all. because our perspectives don’t disappear when the subject doesn’t feature us and we’re not interested in being put in a box.

Our ideas and critiques matter across the entire media landscape. We bring that insight to everything we cover, from big mainstream releases to smaller, weirder, under-the-radar indie work. Whether we’re talking representation, style, politics, or just what makes something fun or frustrating, we approach culture with the understanding that queer voices deserve to be part of the conversation.

Critiquing With Pride

Our Members

GALECA is a 500+ member community of professional LGBTQ+ entertainment critics and journalists who love talking about film, television, and theater. The group consists of some of the most respected professional entertainment critics and journalists working today.

Our members come from different geographic, demographic, and cultural backgrounds, and they bring a unique perspective to what they cover, whether they’re writing for major publications, contributing to indie outlets, and publishing their own newsletters. As media company mergers, layoffs, and shutdowns dovetail with the erasure of DEI initiatives and the rise of AI as existential challenges for quality—even factual—entertainment coverage today, our organization helps both our members in the field and the viewing public know what’s real and what’s slop.
